Founded in 1972, Li Ping Grand Song of Dong Ethnic Group, that comprises 26 members, was inscribed on the World Intangible Cultural Heritage List by UNESCO in 2009. The Grand Song of Dong Ethnic Group is a multi-part choral singing performed without instrumental accompaniment or a conductor. It has a history of more than 2500 years. Mostly a cappella melodies interwoven with uninhibited improvisations, they sing of their hometown, landscapes and the longing for love, echoed by the subtle sounds of rainfall, flowing water and wildlife.
